Profile accuracy critical – crushing gap geometry determines product size. Mn steel work-hardens under compressive impact. Mn18Cr2 suitable for harder rock (granite, basalt). White iron: abrasive low-impact ores (silica sand, limestone).

Most common replacement part in impact crushers – high wear rate. Blow bar weight: 10–200 kg. Cr content drives hardness: 27%Cr = ~650 HBN. Match material to feed: Mn for soft high-impact feed; Hi-Cr for hard abrasive rock. Balance weight within set of bars critical.

ASTM A128 Gr B-3 or Gr C. Water quench heat treatment CRITICAL – non-quenched Mn steel is brittle. Work-hardening surface in service: 200–550 HV from ~175 HBW as-cast. Jaw profile: straight, corrugated, or wave per crusher model. Weight: 50–2000 kg each depending on crusher size.

White iron option: extremely hard (wear-resistant) but brittle – suitable only where impact energy is low. Mn steel: tough and work-hardening – better for high impact. Selection depends on feed material hardness and fragmentation.
